Musculoskeletal Diagnostic Ultrasound / EMG

EMG Electromyography / Nerve Conduction Study (EMG / NCS) is a diagnostic procedure that can be used to predict many different health concerns, including paresthesias (tingling and numbness), carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS), cervical and lumbar radiculopathy, tarsal tunnel syndrome, ulnar nerve palsy, myopathy, brachial plexopathy, and many other muscle- and nerve-related conditions.

Through his experience at Children’s National Medical Center in Washington, DC treating children with pain using medical acupuncture, Dr. Sniezek developed a procedure that helps to reduce anxiety and makes the overall EMG testing experience much less uncomfortable. According to Dr. Sniezek, “EMG’s do not have to be painful.”

Musculoskeletal Diagnostic Ultrasound provides physicians with an innovative new way to get a clearer visual picture of nerves, muscles, ligaments and tendons in an office setting. This is ideal for precisely guiding injection procedures, as well as diagnostic purposes. The guidance we gain from ultrasounds allows us to place injections in the precise location where they are required, making it easier to avoid nerves and blood vessels. With injections guided by ultrasound, the outcomes in treatments used in specific areas, like in the shoulder for plantar fascia or a bursal injection, are improved. We’ve utilized ultrasound in guiding injections into a variety of structures, including the hip joint, Achilles tendon sheath and carpal tunnel. Ultrasound has also been shown to aid in precisely placing platelet-rich plasma grafts directly into the areas with the highest abnormalities.

As with most procedures, the skill and experience of the physician performing the test can impact the comfort level of the patient and quality of the results of the test. Dr. Sniezek has developed a much less uncomfortable EMG by integrating the skills he developed during his residency training at George Washington University Medical Center (1989), medical acupuncture training at UCLA School of Medicine (1995), and Harvard Medical School Postgraduate Studies (2007).
