At the Advanced Integrative Rehabilitation and Pain Center in McLean, VA, Dr. David P. Sniezek, DC, MD, Lic Acup, provides specialized care for patients experiencing neck pain. Leveraging his combined training as a chiropractor and medical physician, he cares for both the structural and medical factors that contribute to discomfort, offering personalized solutions for lasting relief.

Understanding the Causes of Neck Pain
Common musculoskeletal causes of neck pain include strained or overworked muscles, poor posture, and spinal misalignments. Dr. Sniezek also treats injuries such as whiplash or trauma from falls and motor vehicle accidents. In addition, degenerative conditions like arthritis, herniated discs, or cervical spondylosis can lead to chronic pain, stiffness, and reduced mobility. Some patients may experience nerve-related symptoms, such as tingling, numbness, or radiating pain into the shoulders, arms, or hands. With expertise in both chiropractic and medical care, Dr. Sniezek is uniquely positioned to identify and treat the full spectrum of neck pain causes.

Comprehensive, Individualized Treatment
Patients benefit from a multi-layered approach that combines chiropractic adjustments, osteopathic techniques, and medical interventions. Treatments may include medical acupuncture, therapeutic exercises, and physical medicine modalities to restore mobility and strengthen supportive muscles. For more targeted relief, Dr. Sniezek may recommend trigger point therapy, joint injections, or prescription medication. Each plan at our McLean, VA, office is modified to fit the patient’s specific condition, lifestyle, and goals.

What to Expect During Care
The process begins with a detailed evaluation to determine the causes of neck pain, including diagnostic assessments like electromyography (EMG) if indicated. Dr. Sniezek then creates a personalized treatment plan, combining hands-on therapies, exercise guidance, and pain management strategies. Patients can expect ongoing support and monitoring, with the goal of reducing pain, improving function, and promoting long-term neck and spinal health.

Treatments for neck pain

Medical acupuncture

Medical acupuncture is used in western medicine. It is evidence-based rather than following the philosophy of Qi. Acupuncture today uses more than just thin needles, it uses electric pulses, magnets, and lasers. It works by stimulating the nervous system and can be very effective in treating pain and nausea. It is also a holistic approach to wellness and preventing illness, not just treating it.

Chiropractic adjustment

When the vertebrae have gone out of alignment, the entire body suffers. One of the reasons for neck pain is a misalignment of the vertebrae in the neck, which can be the result of injury. By using gentle adjustment, the vertebrae can be put back into alignment and that should help to allow healing to begin.

Trigger point injections

Any muscle in the body can develop a trigger point. They are knots in muscles and can be located in the neck. Treatment includes steroids or anesthesia injections directly into the trigger points.

Therapeutic exercise

Therapeutic exercise is targeted at the specific area of your body where you are suffering pain. If you have neck pain, the exercises will be targeted at that and will likely include stretching exercises that you can do at home to continue the therapy from your visits.

Lifestyle changes

Dr. Sniezek seeks to educate his patients so that they can increase their wellness and avoid things that cause pain to the neck. This may include changes to sleeping and sitting so that the neck is in the correct position. Using ergonomic positions when working can also help with neck pain caused by holding the phone with your head.
